Malaria: Still a
Threat
At this time the Disease Prevention Education Program is in
transition to a new coordinator and is unable to schedule presentations or special events beyond
January 15th. This page will be updated when scheduling is once again
available. For immediate concerns or questions please contact the Katie
Gage at 515-246-6304.
Every 30 seconds, a child dies from
Malaria. Although Malaria has been almost eradicated from the United
States, it is still prevalent in the world. The Disease Prevention Education
Program of the Central Iowa American Red Cross Chapter supports the efforts of
the Fight the Bite Campaign and its work to prevent the transmission of
Malaria. This campaign is working on fighting Malaria in Africa and other
countries that are still devastated from Malaria by providing bed nets in these
areas, raising awareness through education, and researching ways to increase the
use and effectiveness of bed nets.
For only $10, or the price of a movie ticket, a
family can be protected with an insecticide-treated bed net large enough to fit
at least two people. The Fight the Bite Campaign is working to provide families
in Malaria-infected areas with these nets, and they need your help! Please
visit the "How You Can Help" page for more information.
Presentations on Malaria are available. If you
are interested, please contact the Disease Prevention Education Coordinator at
