Scrubby Bear and the Clean
Hands Club
At this time the Disease Prevention Education Program is in
transition to a new coordinator and is unable to schedule presentations or special events beyond
January 15th. This page will be updated when scheduling is once again
available. For immediate concerns or questions please contact the Katie
Gage at 515-246-6304.
The Scrubby Bear youth hygiene program
consists of materials developed to help children know the importance of good
hand washing and general sanitation habits for
preventing disease transmission such as infectious diarrhea, Hepatitis A, colds,
etc.
Scrubby Bear is a large bear mascot that presents a
good
hygiene message to children in a
friendly, fun format. The Scrubby Bear program has a curriculum full of
activities and lessons for teachersand instructors to use in the
classroom and at outreach events.

Scrubby's presentation
includes:
-
Special toys and powders that make
learning about washing your hands fun
-
Scrubby's magic germ light which makes germs glow
on your hands, showing children how transmission of these germs
occurs
-
Games and slogans that are meant to keep children
involved while they learn and to remind them of the need for good
hygiene
The program is most appropriate for children 4 to 7
years old who are at a critical age for developing good hygiene habits. It has
been successfully used by schools, hospitals, health agencies, and day care
centers.
In addition to the presentation, there is a Scrubby
Bear book that is loaded with games and activities for learning about hygiene,
and it is FREE.
