Influenza Pandemic

An influenza pandemic is a world-wide outbreak of a specific flu virus. The timing and severity of the next major outbreak is unknown, and preparations need to be completed in advanced. Fortunately, influenza pandemic planning is occurring around the world right now to prepare nations for a potential outbreak.

Your best defence is you.

The Polk County Health Department held a series of public forums to allow Polk County residents to ask questions regarding potential influenza pandemics. Below is a list of topics that were discussed, and under each topic, there are frequently asked questions and answers to these questions.

For more information on how you can prepare at home, school, work, or in your community or to request a free influenza pandemic presentation for your school, church, office, or community, please contact the Disease Prevention Education Coordinator (515) 471-8337.

At this time the Disease Prevention Education Program is unable to schedule presentations or special events beyond January 15th.  This page will be updated when scheduling is once again available.
